Troupe Requirements
- It’s crucial for students not to miss their final troupe class before a competition. Missing this class will result in their inability to perform in the competition.
- Students will participate in competitions solely if they meet the standards expected of a competition team. Those who have fallen behind, missed numerous classes, or haven’t shown commitment to practicing at home may not have the opportunity to perform on stage. Decisions regarding the performers for each competition will be finalized two weeks prior to the competition date and communicated during troupe classes.
- In 2024, competition entry fees and costume hire expenses will be billed separately from troupe class fees. You have the option to make this payment upfront in Term 2 or opt for a payment plan that spans the entire year. Students who unenroll from troupe before Term 2 will not be required to pay these fees. However, any student who unenrolls after Term 2 will be responsible for the full fee.
- Certain competitions might require a competitor fee in addition to the entry fees. Parents will receive an invoice for this fee before each competition, typically around $20 per competition. (Please note, not all competitions charge this fee.)
- Students are expected to demonstrate respect towards their teachers, fellow students, and studio parents consistently. This extends to exhibiting respect towards other studios, staff, and participants at competitions. Respectful behavior towards everyone involved, both within the studio and at external events like competitions, is mandatory at all times.
- Students are required to attend classes in full uniform, including the appropriate hair, clothing items, shoes, and tights as specified. Punctuality and readiness to work diligently are essential expectations for every lesson.
- Students are expected to consistently support and encourage each other within the troupe. Any form of bullying or unkind behavior is entirely unacceptable, and students found engaging in such behavior will be promptly removed from troupe without delay.
- Students are required to arrive punctually at competitions with their complete uniform, hair styled, and makeup applied as per the requirements. It is essential that students do not arrive at competitions with incomplete hair and makeup.
- Students are responsible for maintaining cleanliness in dressing rooms and backstage areas at all times during competitions or events. This includes hanging up costumes, properly packing them away, and tidying up personal belongings before leaving the venue.
- Parents are expected to adhere to the rules of each competition and display respect towards other dance schools, as well as all competition staff. It is important for parents to celebrate not only our school’s achievements and victories but also recognize and speak positively about all other participating schools and individuals at competitions.
- Parents are requested to support our troupe students in ensuring they arrive punctually to all competitions with their hair and makeup properly done.
- Parents are kindly asked to notify EPA Dance in writing of any student absences to facilitate proper planning by our troupe teachers. Providing as much notice as possible for any absences from troupe classes is greatly appreciated. Your cooperation helps us ensure a smooth and well-prepared learning environment for all students.
- Parents are expected to demonstrate respect and understanding towards any decisions made by our troupe teachers concerning students not competing, particularly if the standards and requirements of the troupe have not been met. It is imperative that parents acknowledge and support these decisions, as our teachers’ determinations are final. Your cooperation and understanding are integral in maintaining the integrity and standards of our troupe program.
- Parents must assist their child and ensure costumes are packed away and that change rooms are left clean prior to leaving a competition or performance.
FAQ’s
Can I leave my child alone at a competition?
Yes we always have staff there on troupe days, parents can drop and go.
Can I come backstage with my child?
Unfortunately not as most competitions do not allow parents to come backstage at all and we risk disqualification if we do not follow the rules set out by each competition.
Can I take photos and videos of the troupe performing on stage?
No you are not able to take any photos and/or videos at competitions. Any parents that takes photos or videos will be asked to leave the theatre and their childs group will be disqualified. The only comp that allows photos/videos to be taken is FYD.
